Our Story
Hello, my name is Mike Cangiamilla and I’m the owner, winemaker, and vineyard manager for Via Cangiamilla Vineyards. Originally from Northern California, surrounded by the most prestigious wine growing regions in the country, I have come to Lyle Washington to share the energy and art of my upbringing.
I am part of a multi-generational Sicilian winemaking family. My grandparents entered the U.S. near the end of the 19th century and brought many talents with them, including family wine-making. The Prohibition forced an end to our family winemaking tradition, however, my grandfather, Giovanni Cangiamilla, used his fermentation skills to bootleg whiskey, gin, and other spirits. After the Prohibition my other grandfather, Michael Sanfilippo, made wine at his Mt Hamilton California ranch. My father told me that after helping his future father-in-law on the ranch, they would go down into cellar to enjoy a glass of wine right out of the barrel. He said that Michael’s wine was some of the most delicious wine he had ever tasted.
My parent’s generation seem to have lost the winemaking tradition, probably due in part to the Prohibition. Now I’m reigniting that tradition after a 39-year career in the Electrical industry. In 2014 I came to Lyle and bought property to establish that dream. It is my desire to share good wine and make lasting memories for all who come.
